What is DHA?

DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) is the active ingredient in self-tanning products. It is a sugar molecule, derived from sugar beets and sugar cane, that reacts to the amino acids on the surface of the skin. The level of DHA controls how dark and natural the colour looks. Bellamianta uses DHA that is carefully formulated to create a natural looking tan. We balance this DHA with moisturisers/fruit extracts to guarantee a smooth, streak-free application and glow.

Is it safe to use bellamianta if I have very sensitive skin such as psoriasis/eczema?

Yes, because Bellamianta contain only the cleanest ingredients, enhanced with natural moisturisers making it suitable for all skin types. All our formulas are enriched with Shea Butter and Aloe Vera which help to soothe the skin and offer additional benefits. Our products include Seabuckthorn Oil which is an anti-inflammatory to help reduce inflammation in your skin. We would advise avoiding application of tan to any broken or very irritated skin.

Can I get a spray tan while pregnant?

As Bellamianta products are clean and non-toxic, it is safe to use them when pregnant. General FAQS

What is a patch test and why do I need to get one?

A patch test is a method of applying a small amount of the product with a cotton bud behind the ear and leaving it dry for 24hours. If any contra-actions occur such as redness, swelling, inflammation or itching, avoid using the product as this is a positive reaction for sensitivity. If no reaction occurs then it is fine to proceed with the full body application.

A patch test is required for all clients who wish to book a spray tan at Shirley’s, a patch test must be performed 24 hours before the appointment time.

Will my tan wash off if I go swimming or enter the pool?

Ideally you will have applied your tan, achieved your desired tone and showered away the residue before getting into the pool. Once your tan has developed you can swim but please be aware that chlorine in pools and sea water could make your tan fade faster.

Do I need to wear SPF/ sun factor even if I have a spray tan?

Yes, it is highly recommended that you wear SPF, not only while out in the sun but SPF should be applied every single day to ensure you protect your skin from those harmful ultraviolet rays – UVA & UVB.

What should I do before I get a spray tan?

The longest-lasting tan starts before you get to the clinic, it all begins at home. This means getting your skin in the best possible condition prior to treatment, since the better its condition, the better and longer lasting your tan will be. It is recommended to exfoliate each day in the days leading up to your spray tan

All waxing and tinting should be done 24-48 hours before your spray tan.If shaving is needed ,please shave 24hrs prior to tanning and then exfoliate afterwards to avoid razor marks on lower legs. This will even out skin again and prep it for tanning.

Have a hot bath and soak for at least 20 mins and then Shower and exfoliate with a body scrub to get rid of any dry, flaky skin paying particular attention to areas such as your knees, elbows and ankles. This is to ensure that the tan will apply to your skin evenly upon application and wear off beautifully.

Of course, Moisturise after exfoliation.

Wear old loose dark clothing and footwear, flip flops are ideal. A disposable G-string is available if required. The beauty of a spray tan is that you get to avoid tan lines so aim for minimal skin-to-fabric contact. Cotton underwear is beat but we can provide a disposable brief and a disposable head cap if needed.

Avoid using any sprays/creams/lotions prior to your spray tan as this can create a barrier on the skin in turn interrupting the development of the spray tan.

What should I do after I get a spray tan?

  • Avoid washing your hands or coming in to contact with water until you decide to shower and wash off your tan.

  • Try to stay cool and wear loose dark clothing

  • Your spray tan will gradually get darker as the day goes on as it takes a little while to fully develop on the skin.

  • Have a luke-warm shower and avoid any shower gels that will leave a residue on your skin.

  • Pat your skin dry after a shower, don’t rub It dry as this can affect the longevity of your spray tan. The idea is to avoid any coarse washcloths or loofahs while showering.

  • Use an oil-free moisturiser to prolong your tan, the more the merrier. We have loads of options available in our retail area at reception, just ask a member of the team.

  • Avoid waxing and shaving as this can also affect your tan.
