PicoWay® Resolve 1064nm Skin Resurfacing

A Non-invasive, low to no downtime laser treatment of pigmentation, fine lines & melasma

PicoWay® Resolve is a non-invasive, picosecond laser treatment specifically designed for skin rejuvenation. The PicoWay laser uses a photoacoustic energy which are short pulses of energy, rather than a photo thermal effect to treat skin imperfections without causing significant damage to the surrounding tissue which means the skin doesn't overheat and lead to long downtime.

PicoWay® Resolve Laser Rejuvenation is recognised as one of the most effective and safe ways to combat skin aging. PicoWay® Resolve creates microscopic injuries to the skin that signal our bodies’ natural healing response, sending mass amounts of collagen and elastin to repair and revitalise tired or uneven skin tone and texture.

The uniqueness of the procedure lies in simultaneously addressing a complex of tasks, such as overall skin rejuvenation, skin resurfacing, acne scars, treatment of pigmentation issues like sunspots and melasma, restoration of skin elasticity and firmness, tightening pores and smoothing wrinkles. Additionally, it provides collagen-boosting effects while minimising downtime.

All handpieces on the PicoWay laser target pigment in the skin. Pigment can be naturally formed, caused by too much melanin in the skin. This appears as dark spots on the skin that can either be seen at birth or form over time from sun damage (sometimes called sun spots), ageing, or even be a result of medical conditions. Pigment can also be added to the skin, in the form of ink in a tattoo. In either case, the PicoWay laser targets the pigment and shatters it into tiny particles that are no longer seen through the skin.

Because The PicoWay laser is so fast and powerful, it creates a non-thermal effect, called a “photoacoustic” effect. Tiny open spaces are created under the skin that are then filled in over time with the growth of new collagen and elastin.

What is THE PicoWay® Laser?

The PicoWay laser system is FDA, CE, and TGA cleared. The device uses a picosecond laser beam with high power and ultra-short pulses to transform your skin from the inside out! The PicoWay laser treats acne scars, wrinkles, benign pigmented lesions (dark spots), and removes black and multi-color tattoos.

The PicoWay laser first became known for its tattoo and pigment removal capabilities, but it continues to grow in use for acne scars and wrinkles. PicoWay laser handpieces come in either full beam or split beam types. Each handpiece is designed for a particular use or uses, some for tattoos and some for removal of pigment or treatment of wrinkles or acne scars. Patients treated for acne scars and wrinkles can resume normal activities – and even apply makeup – within a day of treatment.

How Does The PicoWay Laser Work?

All PicoWay laser treatments use a picosecond laser with high power and ultra-short pulses. A picosecond is a trillionth of a second, the laser energy is split into multiple microbeams that penetrate the skin with a photoacoustic effect, creating tiny vacuoles or spaces under the skin's surface. This rapid delivery of energy produces two benefits stimulating the production of collagen & elastin whilst shattering & flushing out pigment.

The PicoWay laser works below the surface, leaving the outer layer of the skin intact. It can target tattoo pigment, the excess melanin in the skin that causes dark spots, and other pigment; The photoacoustic effect which shatters pigment particles in the skin without generating significant heat.

When treating conditions such as acne scars or wrinkles, these vacuoles (tiny spaces in the dermis) trigger the body's natural healing response, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, which are crucial for maintaining the skin's elasticity and youthful appearance. One of the main advantages over older generation nanosecond lasers is its ability to generate elastin. Traditional resurfacing lasers create intense heat, which does not allow elastin to form.

does the picoway treat melasma?

The PicoWay Resolve is one of very few lasers that is FDA-cleared for the treatment of Melasma

Unlike other aesthetic laser-based devices that may not work on darker skin tones and carry a higher risk of side effects like burns or hypo- or hyperpigmentation, the PicoWay laser employs an innovative approach that allows us to treat patients with nearly all Fitzpatrick skin types. By targeting pigmentation at its source, the PicoWay laser offers a solution for achieving clearer, more even-toned skin. This advanced technology addresses pigmentation issues, providing desired results for a radiant complexion.

What Skin Concerns Can the PicoWay® Laser Treat?

The PicoWay Laser is incredibly effective at treating:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles by stimulating new collagen and elastin.

  • Hyperpigmentation and sun damage by breaking up unwanted pigment.

  • Melasma by targeting deep-seated pigmentation without triggering inflammation.

  • Acne scars and texture issues by increasing skin cell turnover and smoothing the surface.

  • Enlarged pores by tightening the skin and improving elasticity.

  • Uneven skin tone and dullness by enhancing overall skin clarity.

Acne Scars

Did you know that nearly 40% of those with acne have some degree of scarring?

Many acne scars result from a loss of collagen in the skin. PicoWay Resolve treatments use an ultra-short, picosecond laser that reaches below the surface of the skin to stimulate production of collagen and elastin, without breaking the outermost layer of the skin. In clinical studies, 94% of treated areas improved and patients were highly satisfied with results.

Wrinkles

Millions of people each year seek treatment for their wrinkles. Wrinkles can be caused by a loss of collagen in the skin.

The PicoWay Resolve applicator on the PicoWay system is a non-invasive, needle free treatment option for wrinkles. Resolve uses ultra-short laser pulses to reach under the skin, without breaking the outer layer of the skin. Picosecond lasers are proven to stimulate collagen and elastin.

Dark Spots

Skin discoloration is common, yet treatable. Dark spots, or benign pigmented lesions, appear in many people on different areas of the skin. Some spots are related to excessive sun exposure.

Others can be caused by hormone changes, often impacting women following pregnancy. Many of these skin discolorations can be distressing and affect quality of life.

Tattoo Removal

The PicoWay system is a high power laser with ultra short pulses that shatters tattoo ink, but leaves the outer layer of the skin intact. The PicoWay laser treats a wide range of tattoo colors across a broad range of skin types.

Over a series of brief treatments, the PicoWay laser can eliminate most tattoos. That’s why the PicoWay laser is the tattoo removal laser of choice by Removery, the nation’s leading tattoo removal provider.

Frequently Asked PicoWay Treatment Questions:

What to Expect During a Treatment

A typical session is relatively quick, usually lasting between 15 to 30 minutes depending on the area being treated. During the procedure, the laser handpiece will be passed over the target area, delivering precise microbeams of energy. Patients often describe the sensation as a mild tingling or snapping feeling but it is very manageable.

What to Expect After a Treatment

One of the significant advantages is its minimal downtime. After the treatment, you may experience some redness and swelling, similar to a mild sunburn, which typically subsides within a few hours to a day. Since the treatment does not rely on heat, the risk of side effects is lower compared to other laser treatments. You can usually resume your normal activities immediately after the session, and makeup can be applied as soon as the following day.

Results develop gradually as collagen production increases and the skin heals. Most patients start noticing improvements in skin texture, tone, and overall appearance within a few weeks, with optimal results typically visible after a series of treatments.

Is the PicoWay laser right for me?

If you are looking for a laser treatment that acts below the surface of the skin and offers low to no downtime, then the PicoWay laser may be the right laser for you. Ask us if PicoWay laser treatment can minimize your acne scars or wrinkles or remove bothersome dark spots and tattoos that you no longer want.

Who is this procedure not right for?

The PicoWay laser is FDA, CE mark, and TGA cleared for certain uses: acne scars, wrinkles, dark spots (benign pigmented lesions), and tattoo removal. While the PicoWay laser works on both lighter and darker skin types, depending on the wavelength and applicator needed for your treatment, the PicoWay laser may not be the best treatment for your skin type. Ask us which PicoWay applicator is best for your skin type and treatment needs.

Is the PicoWay laser safe?

Side effects with the PicoWay laser are typically transient and expected as part of the laser treatment.Patients experience low to no downtime. In some cases, patients may use a topical anesthetic to enhance comfort during the treatment. More common side effects include redness, swelling, pinpoint bleeding, tingling or purplish spots. These effects will differ, however, depending on the treatment you receive.

Are PicoWay treatments painful?

Your level of discomfort depends on the type treatment you receive. For example, those undergoing tattoo removal are likely to experience minor pain and discomfort. However, when undergoing the PicoWay Resolve treatment, patients treated for wrinkles generally reported low levels of pain, and mild to no discomfort from those treated for acne scars or dark spots.

What results I can expect?

  • PicoWay Resolve rejuvenation improves overall skin complexion, smoothes out rough skin texture, minimize the appearance of pores, and create a more refined skin surface.

  • Help even out skin tone by eliminating hyperpigmentation, sunspots, freckles, melasma and produces a more even and radiant complexion.

  • Diminish the appearance of acne scars, including atrophic scars and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, resulting in smoother skin.

  • PicoWay Resolve targets fine lines and wrinkles, especially around the eyes, mouth, and forehead, resulting in a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.

  • The laser energy from Picoway Resolve promotes collagen production in the skin, leading to improved skin elasticity, firmness, and overall skin rejuvenation over time.

  • Increased collagen production leads to firmer and more resilient skin, reducing the appearance of sagging or laxity, as well as boosting skin health and vitality.

How soon can I expect to see results?

Depending on the condition treated, you will be able to see initial improvement as early as after the first treatment. In many cases, you start to notice improvements in your skin within a few weeks to a few months. Some immediate effects, such as a glowing effect or smoother skin texture, will be visible shortly after the first treatment due to the laser’s stimulation of collagen production.

However, significant and more noticeable results, such as reduced pigmentation or melasma, diminished acne scars, and overall skin rejuvenation, often become apparent as the skin continues to heal and regenerate in the weeks following the treatment. 4-6 sessions are recommended for optimal and long-lasting results, as the skin gradually improves over time with each treatment session.

Can I return to normal activities after treatment?

Yes, you can. Most people can return to their activities of daily living shortly after treatment. Following tattoo removal, however, you may need a bandage to keep the treatment area dry for a few days.

What makes PicoWay different from other treatments?

PicoWay is a picosecond laser with a high peak power and ultra-short pulse durations, leading to a photoacoustic effect, instead of a photothermal one (which can overheat the skin). The majority of PicoWay patients report high satisfaction and low to no downtime.
